Marc Andreessen

Marc Andreessen declared "Software is eating the world" in 2011, and Cobus Greyling reuses the line in November 2025 to argue the claim could not hold while building software still required scarce, expensive programmers. Andreessen also supplies Greyling's counter-bubble argument: unlike the dot-com fiber glut, there are no "dark GPUs".

On Lenny Rachitsky's podcast and in his account of AI coding, the co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz holds that the job is now orchestrating ten coding bots in parallel, arguing with them, debugging their output and rewriting the specs, while the fundamentals stay mandatory: "If you don't understand how to write code yourself, you can't evaluate what the AI gives you." He puts the productivity gain at 10x, 100x, even 1000x. Humans keep the supervision, the evaluation and the judgment calls.

His other positions widen the frame: three candidate definitions of AGI (doctorate-level research, an AI that takes over its own improvement, or simply recognising it once we get there), a global workforce shrinking indefinitely that makes AI's arrival timely rather than threatening, the absence of AI tools in most schools as a "scandal", and a self-description as a determined optimist who thinks the better future has to be forced into existence.

He is also a target. Riley Ralmuto's March 2026 rebuttal takes his claim that introspection was invented around 1910-1920 under Freud's influence and answers with 2400 years of counter-examples, from Socrates to Montaigne, then turns Andreessen's own model founders against him: Jobs, Musk, Zuckerberg, Dalio and Bezos all practise it. Ralmuto's closing distinction is between introspection and rumination.
