Accenture carries a market valuation of $155 billion and a share price down 30% over two years, a stretch in which the S&P 500 rose 50%. One British finance director gave the mechanism in a single comparison: a project costing $1 million in-house could be outsourced to Accenture for $200,000, and machine learning now does the same work for $10,000.

In September 2025 the firm reported 11,000 posts cut through automation, with further layoffs expected for staff who could not be retrained. On 25 September 2025 it disclosed a restructuration de 865 millions $ spread over six months, shifting its workforce toward digital and AI demand. Earlier that year, in March 2025, the Department of Government Efficiency named ten large firms, Accenture among them alongside Deloitte, Booz Allen Hamilton, IBM and Guidehouse, and pressed them to justify their fees.

The counterweight came out of Ethan Mollick's LinkedIn thread on forward deployed engineering teams. Practitioners commenting there argued that Accenture endures because it sells responsabilité contractuelle rather than competence alone: an AI cannot be sued, a firm can. Their most repeated formulation was that curing cancer might be easier than replacing Accenture.

Accenture sits on both sides of the same trade. Lyzr AI names it as the client behind a YouTube to Shorts Generator built for media work, and the firm is standing up a Gemini Enterprise Business Group with Google Cloud. Whether contractual accountability holds its price once clients can buy the same output for $10,000 remains unsettled.
