Four notes between 23 September 2025 and 4 August 2026 track Cloudflare inserting itself between agents and the web it already serves. On 12 February 2026, Celso Martinho and Will Allen announced Markdown for Agents: when a client sends `Accept: text/markdown`, the edge converts the origin's HTML on the fly, cutting token count by 80% with no change at the origin server. The same post carried Content Signals, three publisher directives (`ai-train`, `search`, `ai-input`), and Toolshed, a collection of more than 400 MCP tools.

Will Papper's Wallets announcement of 4 August 2026, during Agents Week, extends the same logic to money and names. Account Wallets belong to humans; Virtual Wallets are bound to an API key with an allocation, an allow list and a per-transaction ceiling fixed by the account holder. The rail is x402, the currency a stablecoin, and an agent can live at a handle like `research.example.cloudflare.pay`, which Cloudflare compares to the URL and IP-address pairing in DNS. It declines to write a proprietary verification scheme and adopts the x402 Foundation's instead. What actually shipped that day is handle reservation. Payments, virtual wallets and guardrails are future tense, the claim that bots now produce most web traffic is unsourced, and European compliance goes unmentioned.

Mark Dembo's 7 June 2026 weekend build (a 30 euro M5Stack driven by Claude Code and Workers AI) shows the same stack from the user's side, where 50 Todoist tools arrived through MCP OAuth and had to be defaulted to deny.
