On 21 April 2026, SpaceX and Cursor announced an agreement giving SpaceX the right to acquire Cursor for 60 billion dollars during the year, or to pay 10 billion for a continuing compute and collaboration partnership that puts the editor and the Composer models on xAI's Colossus cluster in Memphis. Mitch Ashley of The Futurum Group reads it as one deal answering two separate problems. Cursor, owned by Anysphere and used by more than half of the Fortune 500, had hit a compute ceiling above Composer 2, and it was paying market price for the Anthropic and OpenAI models it routes to its own customers while competing with them. The deal preempted a 2 billion dollar round led by Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital and Nvidia at a 50 billion valuation.

The money question recurs from both directions. Bain & Company records ARR doubling in a single quarter to 2 billion dollars. Anirban Ghoshal, writing in September 2025, places Cursor alongside Claude Code and Kiro in a general upward price harmonisation driven by GPU supply and model licensing, and Kate Holterhoff notes that Cursor's pricing changes irritated the vibe coding community that had adopted it.

The company also sits on the technical steering committee that published Agent Plugins 1.0.0, with Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI and Vercel. Buyers chose Cursor for visible neutrality above the model layer; Ashley treats the following six months as a contractual re-verification window.
