GitHub — Organization. role: Publisher of Copilot, cited as a pricing comparison point
In June 2026, GitHub removed the flat-rate premium requests model from Copilot and billed per token instead, despite protests. Paul Sawers set that move against Anthropic's in The New Stack on 16 June 2026: Anthropic suspended an equivalent Agent SDK billing change on the day it was due to take effect, while GitHub had already drawn the same conclusion and stood by it. Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code, had stated the shared premise in April, saying subscriptions "weren't built for the usage patterns of these third-party tools". Copilot's price is the comparison point others get measured against.
GitHub publishes the enquête adoption outils IA codage, which put usage of AI coding assistants above 97 percent, a figure Anirban Ghoshal placed beside Stack Overflow's 84 percent adoption-or-planning rate in his September 2025 piece on rising assistant prices. Kate Holterhoff counted GitHub Spark, which turns an idea into a full-stack application in one click, among the tooling that defined the summer 2025 wave of vibe coding. That same summer brought data leaks through MCP at GitHub and Supabase, and vendors hardened their security in response.
Shubham Saboo puts the memory of Loop Engineering in the repository: artifact, diffs, eval results, decision log and rollback in one place, "the repo becomes product memory". Thomas Petersen's Buzz Projects at Block contests that position, proposing a forge where a Nostr key signs pushes with no separate GitHub account, and contribution history becomes "more than a set of colored squares on a profile".
