Dario Amodei predicts that 50% of junior white-collar jobs will disappear by 2030, and he calls what follows a "white-collar blood bath". Jasmine Sun puts that forecast at the center of her NYT Opinion piece of 30 April 2026 on a permanent underclass, alongside Block's March 2026 layoff of half its staff and OpenAI's GDPVal benchmark. Amodei directs Anthropic, but he functions here less as an executive than as a quotable source: his sentences travel into other people's arguments.

David Wallace-Wells (NYT Magazine, 8 May 2026) reaches for a different Amodei line, from 2024, about how little is understood of the technology, and counts him among five lab founders he casts as the new faces of American oligarchy. Ahmad Osman's June 2026 thread reads the same speech habit as strategy: the ABC interview of 11 June 2026, with its call for tighter regulation and its "I don't trust China at all", becomes evidence of a pause agenda that serves Anthropic's position against open source AI.

Steve Yegge and Gene Kim cite him for something else. Their working definition of vibe coding, an iterative conversation that results in AI writing your code, is credited to Amodei, and they report that inside Anthropic there is no other game in town.
