Thoughtworks

Thoughtworks, founded in 1993 on a heritage of XP, continuous delivery, microservices and refactoring, launched «AI/works™» on 12 May 2026 under the slogan "We are doing it again for the AI era." The pitch is economic before it is technical: "The breakthrough is the economics." Six capabilities span the lifecycle, from ingesting legacy code into validated as-is specs to runtime ops, and they turn on a Super Spec, a unified dynamic specification kept current in production that triggers regeneration of the affected code rather than patches. Delivery is packaged as 3-3-3: three days to align the product concept, three weeks for a prototype, three months for an MVP in production. The positioning is combative, with "no consultant crowds" aimed at the large integrators and a platform that "stands on an engineering foundation rather than enthusiasm."

The intellectual groundwork came earlier from the same house. Matt Kamelman formalized Service-as-Software on the Thoughtworks blog on 3 December 2025, arguing that buyers will pay for demonstrated alignment and impact instead of seats or features. «Martin Fowler» reported from the «Thoughtworks Future of Software Development Retreat» in February 2026, where Margaret-Anne Storey named cognitive debt and Ranganathan and Ye's Harvard Business Review work pointed to work intensification and quality decay.

That gap is worth watching. «AI/works™» promises that "systems finally stop aging", while «Birgitta Böckeler» wrote in April 2026 that the behavioral harness, verifying an application does what it should, remains the unsolved one.
